Nipsey Hussle‘s memorial service erupted into chaos leaving multiple people injured, police say.
Hundreds of people gathered Monday night outside the rapper’s Los Angeles clothing store on the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson where he was shot yesterday to mourn his death. A loud noise, which allegedly sounded like a gunshot, sent the crowd running, resulting in a stampede.
The LAPD released a statement via Twitter saying, “Our men and women are on scene and making every effort to protect everyone in attendance at the Nipsey Hussle vigil. Reports of shots fired at the vigil do not appear to be accurate. We do have injured in the chaos and are attempting to restore order.”
The statement adds, “We understand the community is mourning and we feel your loss. We are asking for everyone to follow the officers’ directions and disperse from the immediate area.”
The “Hussle & Motivate” musician (née Ermias Asghedom)died Sunday after being shoton the street where his clothing store, the Marathon Clothing Company, is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Two other victims were involved in the shooting, according to authorities. Monday night, LAPD named Eric Holder as the sole shooter wanted for homicide and say he fled the scene in a waiting vehicle driven by an unidentified vehicle.
