November 04, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, was the standout player as his side claimed a dramatic 3-2 away victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday. Boniface provided two assists in a top-shelf performance.
The visitors took an early lead through Florian Wirtz, who finished off a fine move involving Boniface. Alejandro Grimaldo then doubled Leverkusen’s advantage with a long-range strike on the stroke of half-time.
However, the hosts fought back in the second period, with goals from Anton Stach and Wout Weghorst drawing Hoffenheim level. Leverkusen showed resilience though, and on 70 minutes, Boniface teed up Grimaldo for the winner with an exquisite pass.
The 22-year-old Boniface, who started after being rested midweek, produced an all-action display. As well as his two assists, he had 33 touches and won four of his seven duels before being replaced late on.
The victory sees high-flying Leverkusen strengthen their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. Meanwhile, the defeat leaves Hoffenheim lingering in sixth place.
