July 31, (THEWILL) – Veteran Highlife singer, Pa Monday Igbinidu, has slammed a lawsuit against Afro-fusion singer, Crown Uzama, also known as Shallipopi.
Shallipopi had earlier released a song, ‘Obapluto’, which was well received and applauded by fans, however, Pa Igbinidu, while granting an interview, revealed that Shallipopi did not seek his permission before sampling his song, ‘Ovonramwen ‘n’ Ogbaisi’.
The veteran musician later slammed a lawsuit against the singer. The suit was filed at the Edo State High Court.
According to the court document which surfaced online, Pa Igbinidu accused Shallipopi of infringing on his copyright, by using the sound, and lyrics of his song in ‘Obapluto’.
The veteran musician, in his lawsuit, gave Shallipopi 7 days to render an account of all proceeds from the new record and future profits would be shared in a 70-30% ratio.
He also demanded N200 million damages to be paid to him for the infringement of his copyright and a public apology in two notable and widely read newspapers and across the singer’s social media pages.
