NIGERIA: A POVERTY CAPITAL WITH THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE GOVERNMENT

₦30,000 ($82.76) is the new minimum wage due for payment for the Nigerian worker by the Nigerian government. Though a 65% increase, it is a significant retrogression from the ₦18,000 (>$105 in 2011) minimum wage approved by the #Jonathan's administration in 2011 in terms of real income, purchasing power, inflaton and exchange rate.

On the contrary, the Nigerian government which oversees the affairs of the world's poorest citizens still stands greedily undefeated as the most expensive government in the world. A #Nigerian Senator earns over 505 times the new Nigerian minimum wage and 281 times the per capita income of the nation whereas a US Senator's salary is only two times higher than the US minimum wage.

A Nigerian senator earns three times higher than a US Senator annually, even though America earns 53 times more money than Nigeria annually (GDP 2018/2019).
The US minimum wage is 30 times higher than Nigeria's, but US senators earn three times lower than the eternally greedy Nigerian Senators.

This whole arithmetic points to the fact that the Nigerian workforce is severely shortchanged by her foolishly greedy and lavish government with a bottomless penchant for insatiable looting and illicit aggrandizement. #Nigeria is so rich yet her workforce is so poor and laboriously weighed down with the burden of the government raging greed.

In this era of humongous inequality in the distribution of income, the true essence of democracy which is the will to serve has been replaced by the decree to starve the citizens of their right and weaponize poverty. Political offices have become instant poverty alleviation positions with the side benefit of dictatorship garnished with immunity.

As the government of Nigeria, through much disagreement, finally decide to keep up with the bread crumbs constantly hurled at her workforce in the name of minimum wage, Let it be known to the world that the average Nigerian politician (who see no wrong in the continuation of the suffering) is a heartless thief and a fellow of pungent dishonor.

The struggle with corruption continues!
