Multiple award-winning movie director Obi Emelonye once again breaks new ground in Nollywood filmmaking with the much anticipated Oxford Gardens, his second movie collaboration with Africa Magic Original Films. This latest sure-fire hit stars two of the hottest emerging stars international Nollywood has to offer, exciting newcomer Ngozi Thompson Igwebike and US based heartthrob Ngoli Okafor, the hugely popular and most downloaded black male model in history and one of the brightest new stars in the African international film industry. Despite his wide spread appeal and experience in Hollywood, Oxford Gardens marks the first lead role in a cinema movie for the ex Golden Gloves boxing champion.
Known for setting new landmarks in Nollywood cinema, Obi Emelonye’s production house The Nollywood Factory has teamed up for a second time with Africa Magic Original Films, the movie studio arm of Africa Magic (Africa’s No.1 television network) to produce and release Oxford Gardens at cinemas across Nigeria from 18th Dec 2015 before its network premiere across key African continental territories
Oxford Gardens is an inspiring love story wrapped in boxing gloves. Julius (Ngoli Okafor) is a broken, down-¬on-¬his-¬luck ex-¬boxer, living his life on the edge, but in desperate search of redemption. Munachi (Ngozi Thompson Igwebike) is a pretty, bubbly young girl carrying a dark secret. A chance meeting on a park bench in Oxford Gardens one summer afternoon sets in motion an unlikely friendship and an uplifting journey through their respective fears; and through hope, faith and love; to a stoic acceptance of whatever life throws at them.

Oxford Gardens, shot in London, joins a growing number of blockbuster titles produced by Nollywood professionals with support from Africa Magic. Speaking on the movie’s unique storyline, Mr. Emelonye says he was inspired by Nigeria’s huge boxing tradition as well as the time-tested successes of other internationally revered boxing titles. “Boxing films over the years have been very successful globally and they stir potent emotions in audiences, as the Rocky series and more recently other Hollywood titles like Cinderella Man and Southpaw have proven” he said.
With an established reputation of mixing gifted character actors with fresh new talent, Obi has this time opted to introduce a host of screen newcomers who are likely to go on to become known stars of the future. Chief amongst them is one D’Richy Obi-Emelonye, who made her debut appearance in her father’s film.
Oxford Gardens features Ngoli Okafor, a former U.S.A boxing champion, top model and Hollywood actor, Ngozi Thompson Igwebike, Savanah Roy, Iffy Chukwu, Princess Abiye, Frank Ani, Nnenna Ani and D'Richy Emelonye.
Mr. Emelonye added: “Once in a while, a simple film comes along to shake up African cinema. The Mirror Boy did that in 2011, and I have a feeling that Oxford Gardens will be as seminal. The movie explores new exciting themes and takes action to a whole new level. I am really excited about this film and I am grateful for the huge support I received from Africa Magic in making it happen.”
