PROF. YEMI OSIBANJO'S VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES

Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has embarked on a four-day trip to meet his counterpart, Mike Pence The Vice President of the United States of America to discuss the economic prospects of both countries.

Nigeria with a population of over 200 million, currently has Africa's highest number of migrants in the U.S. of over 300,000 according to the 2018 United States envoy statistics.

These massive exodus which had led to severe depletion in the quality and quantity of the nation's human capital is just one of the numerous unpleasant effects of the insecurity, injustice, corruption, nepotism, terrorism and ethno- religious genocide that have sorely ravaged the once highly-respected nation and left her economy grossly malnourished.

Sadly, the situation has become even worse under the watch of Mr Osibanjo's boss, President Muhammadu Buhari who forced himself into power for another tenure, through a process that has been described as heavily corrupt, unfair and outrageously rigged as corroborated by the European Union observers “The elections became increasingly marred by violence and intimidation, with the role of the security agencies becoming more contentious as the process progressed, ” the EU observers said Saturday 15th June 2019 in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, in their final report on the Feb. 23 and March 2 votes. “This damaged the integrity of the electoral process and may deter future participation."

Whatever maybe be presented on the table when both vice presidents meet, Mr Pence should not fail to hold Mr Osibanjo accountable and demand reasonable clarification on the state of affairs in Nigeria, which is wrongly run with a vaporising façade of stability and growth. Osibanjo owes it to the millions of impoverished Nigerians at home who live on less than $1 per day, and the thousands of Nigerians in the US who are deeply troubled about the escalating terror and insecurity in their home. Also, he is required to tell the truth about the rigging of the 2019 elections, the cringeworthy incompetence and nepotism in the current government which has aided the escalation of violence in the nation, and the despondent display of tyranny and religious extremism resulting in the unabated attack on Christians in Northern Nigeria and the marginalization of the people of Southern Nigeria by lawless set of persons, firmly clinging to power just to amass humongous wealth, shamelessly sealed with immunity at the expense of the progress of the nation.

Peace and Unity are integral to driving the economy of any nation and it is a well known fact that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration has failed woefully in protecting lives and properties of citizens under his watch. This is the 'economy' Nigerians are most interested in resuscitating.
