PROPOSED DEGRADATION OF ENUGU AIRPORT: ANOTHER THOUGHTLESS IDEA
In the wake of a series of inherently deficient policies presently being conceived and advanced by the Nigerian Federal Government, the Senate remains the last hope of the hundreds of millions of her citizens who detest and decry such hazardously inimical conceptions.
When the 8th National Assembly ably led by the outgoing Senate President, Bukola Saraki, moved to cancel the proposed degradation of the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu from the status of an international airport to a local one, it was greeted with cheers and commendations. This act by the Senate only goes to reinforce the sacrosanct principle of separation of powers, which is the oxygen of any democracy.
Whatever be the motivation for such non-beneficial policy by the nation's controversial President, Muhammadu Buhari and his team of supposed 'special advisors' should not be applauded.
While billions are spent by President Buhari in compensating terrorist herdsmen and boosting their cohesion/advancement through the establishment of a dedicated radio station for such a minority group, as well as the government ordering all of its citizens who legally possess guns to surrender them and trust in a police force where loss of weight represents hard work for security, the proposed degradation rather than renovation of the Enugu Airport, is clearly an attack on the good people of the South-East and a subtle attempt to weaken the economic and financial power of the region and must be vehemently opposed as yet another foolish idea.
Nigeria needs such actions displayed by the Senate. The country is not to be run by a privileged few who are greedy but should be run based on justice and equality.
