WANTON KILLINGS IN BASSA PLATEAU STATE NIGERIA BY FULANI MILITIA
The people of Bassa town in Bassa Local Government Area in the Middle belt state of Plateau Nigeria were once again gruesomely attacked on Tuesday, 31st March, 2020 by Fulani militia with many murdered in cold blood, several others wounded and many houses razed by fire. With total disregard to sanctity of human life, another attack was unleashed on them within 24hours as several people were killed on Wednesday 1st April 2020, many houses destroyed and several others inflicted with terrible injuries. The incessant attacks by Fulani militia on the people of Bassa is totally unacceptable and should be condemned in the strongest terms as the lives of these innocent citizens are cut short by these terrorists.
The Fulani militia has been declared the fourth deadliest terrorist group in the world yet the Buhari-led Federal government of Nigeria continues to treat them with kid gloves and releasing billions of Naira to them in the guise of presidential amnesty. The continuous exhibition of soft touch by President Buhari in handling these terrorists is causing unimaginable tension and chaos in the land.
It is quite unfortunate that in the face of fight against Covid-19 with several lives lost across the globe and Nigeria grabbling with realities of the terrible pandemic, the Fulani militia has remained unresolved. The Senator representing Plateau North in Nigeria Senate Mr Gyang has issued a press release condemning the dastardly act. Could this be the best the leaders of the people of Bassa can afford them…apologies and condemnation?…..certainly not. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who is from the Fulani ethnic group is hereby called upon to rise up to his responsibility as the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces to protect lives and property of the people of Nigeria.
The citizens of Nigeria cannot continue to live with apologies from the government while they are being murdered in cold blood on daily basis without any proactive intervention. If he (the President) cannot deliver the primary responsibility of government to her citizens, it is advisable he resigns and allows another competent hand to manage the affairs of the nation. Nigeria which was the economic hub of Africa and the best economy of the continent in 2014 has turned to poverty capital of the world under President Buhari within four years of his incompetent administration. It is time the United Nations and the international community calls the President to order. Nigerians must as a matter of urgency rise up in condemnation of the continuous silence of the President in the face of these terrible killings.
